Wine Auction Buys A Van For Needy WA Families

wine Auction The Motor Industry Foundation held their annual Charity Wine and Auction Dinner on 26th August raising in excess of $30,000 for the Foundation. A fantastic result!

Almost 100 guests from the WA Motor Industry bought the limited tickets for the Wine Dinner held at the impeccable Friends Restaurant at the Hyatt. Guests enjoyed a sumptuous three course meal and fantastic wine whilst digging deep for MIF and buying big at the Auction.

Executive Director of the MIF, Colin Rockman said, "The $30,000 raised on the night exceeded all our expectations and we thank Castrol as our major sponsor and all of those from the motoring community who supported the event.

“We can now afford to purchase an extra Commuter Van, have a hydraulic lift added to it and provide it to one of the 25 families on our waiting list. These families turn to MIF for help as they can't transport their wheelchair bound children to everyday activities such as school and doctors appointments. MIF has made another difference in the community so thank you."

The Auction was the highlight of the evening. Wayne Phipps, MIF Board Member and owner of Wayne Phipps Smash Repairs, kindly donated his time as the auctioneer on the evening and ensured everyone had a great night. Wayne said, “The wine that was auctioned at the Wine Dinner are collector items so everyone who took home an auction item on the night definitely got value for money, whilst helping a good cause at the same time."

Friends Restaurant were very generous by delving into their cellar and producing some very rare and sought after wines to auction on the evening, as well as one-of-kind electric guitars signed by the Doobie Brothers and the Travelling Wilburys.

Toyota Golf Day - April 2010

Toyota Golf Day

TEEING OFF WITH A TWIST!

Forget the traditional corporate golf day - MIF's Toyota Charity Golf Day was not one that the participants will forget in a hurry!

Held on April 16 at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club, more than $75,000 was raised, enough to hand over three more Commuter Vans, modified with a hydraulic lift, to deserving families who have children in wheelchairs.

27 teams participated in a game with a twist - not every hole counted for scoring, and only the Golf Pro knew which ones.  In the end, the Channel 7 team was victorious and celebrated at the gala dinner.

The prize pool at the auction include some amazing 'money can't buy'
experiences, including a cruise on the Leeuwin for a team building event, and 'must have' items including a pink Argyle diamond, two zippy "His and Hers" Vmoto Monza scooters and a set of boxing gloves signed by Danny Green.

With the assistance of generous sponsors including Toyota WA, Toyota Autoparts and Gull Petroleum, the MIF Golf Day is destined to be an annual event.

For more information on sponsorship details for next year, please contact Michelle Peters on 0412 686 510.

The Motor Industry Foundation would gratefully like to acknowledge the support and generousity from the following sponsors that made this event possible.

Wine and Dinner Auction at Friends Restaurant - March 2009

Wine and Auction and Friends Restaurant

Despite the economic outlook at present, some people just can’t help but to open their hearts and their wallets for a worthy cause.

On Tuesday March 31st, a gathering of elegant and generous guests gathered at Friends Restaurant at the Hyatt Centre for the Western Australian Motor Industry Foundation Dinner and Wine Auction.

The evening kicked off as soon as guests were seated and the fabulous entrees arrived. Friends outdid themselves with the beautiful fare on offer, but it did not distract avid bidders from actively participating in the lively auction. A range of wines, from happy quaffers to a rare bottle of Greencock Creek Roennfeldt Road Barossa Valley Shiraz 2002 (which fetched over $700!) were on offer.

MC and Motor Industry Foundation Board Member Wayne Phipps kept the evening going along at a cracking pace and had the dollars flowing in. Along with the wine there were some other great items up for grabs, including a fridge donated by Good Guys Joondalup filled with wine donated by Hartley’s Estate, a trip for two plus accommodation to next year’s Leeuwin Estate concert donated by Motive Travel and Olympic Gold Coins from The Perth Mint, amongst many others. The night’s raffle featured an Argyle Diamond kindly donated by Odgaard Jewellers, and supported by Hartley Estate Wine.

The Foundation would like to thank all the local businesses and individuals who donated items which helped us raise significant funds on the night.
A highlight of the evening was when Ross Maugher spoke. He, his wife Linda and their son Brenton were the Foundation’s special guests on the evening to receive the keys to a wheelchair modified vehicle to transport Brenton and his two siblings around in comfort and safety. Ross’ speech was moving and heartfelt, and reminded everyone present of the importance of why they were there. The keys to the vehicle were presented by Noelle Simons, General Manager of Car Craft. Car Craft once again were responsible for sponsoring and preparing the vehicle the Maughers received, and the value of their generous support is immeasurable in terms of how it will help this wonderful family.

The evening was a great success for the Foundation, and we look forward to using the funds raised to obtain another vehicle for a local family. It would not have been possible without the support of two very special sponsors, Brad Appleton of Castrol Lubricants and Russell Garvey of BDO Kendalls. Both companies were presented with ‘Friends of the Foundation’ awards in recognition of their ongoing support for the Motor Industry Foundation.

Once again the Foundation was fortunate in receiving excellent support from so many caring members of the WA Automotive Industry, and we extend our sincere thanks to everyone from within the industry and beyond who attended and enthusiastically participated in such an important evening for the Foundation. If you or your company want to be a part of this great cause, contact Anita at the Motor Industry Foundation at abell@mtawa.com.au to find out more about sponsorship or upcoming events.

An Evening in Beijing - August 2008

Evening in Beijing

It was a great night of celebration for the Motor Industry Foundation on Tuesday August 19th when 120 guests gathered at the Han Palace Chinese Restaurant in East Perth for ‘A Night In Beijing’. The theme of the night was great food and great fun with an Olympics twist, but the real stars of the night were Peter and Debbie Wilkie, who took possession of a specially modified Toyota Hiace van courtesy of the Motor Industry Foundation and the Car Craft Group, for their two daughters Brodie and Amanda who suffer from Batten Disease. Batten Disease is a neurodegenerative disease which has seen Brodie (7) and Amanda (5) slowly become completely wheelchair bound over the course of their short lives. The vehicle was presented to the Wilkies by MIF Chairman Peter Fitzpatrick and Dean Taylor, Group Manager of the Car Craft Group, who were the generous sponsors of the vehicle.

The evening was off to a great start with Wayne Phipps, aka ‘Wun Hung Lo’ as MC entertaining guests and keeping events flowing. Olympic Gold Medalist Todd Pearson (of Statewide Oil) and Olympic Silver Medalist Greg Corbitt shared insights into their Olympic experiences, and a phone call from David ‘Christo’ Christison live from Beijing added to the atmosphere of the night. While guests enjoyed a Gold Plate 9 course Chinese Banquet, the Olympics played on the big screen and wallets and purse were opened generously for an auction of some great items. One featured item was a seat in the Toyota V6 Hilux Heroes stunt cars appearing at the Royal Show, which was quickly snapped up, and bested only by the surprise donation by the enormously generous Steve Brown of Bridgestone Tyres, who offered a second seat up for grabs, which was just as popular.

Debbie Lanario of The Good Guys Joondalup provided a fabulous Samsung widescreen TV for the raffle prize, which attracted hundreds of hopeful ticket purchases. All up, the night was a great success, and almost $10 000 was raised for the Foundation to work towards helping another family just like the Wilkies. Our thanks go to all our guests on the evening who really got into the spirit of the event, our very special sponsors BDO Kendalls who made it possible, Hartley Wines, The Good Guys Joondalup, Christo and Harvey Deegan of NCS, the fabulous Car Craft Group, Toyota and Wayne Phipps, the host with the most.

Motor Industry Foundation
Dinner and Awards 2008 - April 2008

Guests at the Motor Industry Foundation Dinner and Awards on Saturday April 26th were treated to an evening of dazzling entertainment and good old fashioned fun, Vegas style. The Ballroom at Perth Convention Centre was transformed into a Las Vegas nightclub and the room buzzed with excitement even before the Award winners were announced. Renowned trio The Rat Pack's Back not only crooned their way through classics such as New York ,New York and I Did it my Way, but got the crowd singing along and on their feet in a crazy conga line around the room.

The Honourable Ljiljanna Ravlich presented awards alongside Peter Fitzpatrick, Chairman of the Motor Industry Foundation and CEO of MTA WA . Other special guests on the night included Dr Mal Washer MP, Tony O'Gorman MLA and his wife Bernadette, The Hon Simon O'Brien and his wife Joy, President of MTA WA Basil Scagliotta and his wife Rosie, The Chairman of the Chamber of Automotive Industry John Costello and State Manager of Nissan and his wife Loraine. Chloe Dougheney and her mother Lorraine May were VIP's for the night and both ladies looked stunning. Chloe and her young son Brae were the Motor Industry Foundation's first charity recipients with the purchase of a vehicle for Chloe to transport Brae from Bunbury to his many hospital visits.

Speeches for the evening were kept short and sharp, with Trent Bartlett of Platinum Sponsors Capricorn Society and Mike Wilkinson, Chairman of Gold Sponsors Car Craft doing an outstanding job of promoting the aims of the Foundation and encouraging others to become involved as well. Suprisingly, Lifetime Achievement Award winner Colin Rockman was momentarily lost for words when called to the stage with his lovely wife Donnelle.

Peel Tyre Services came out on top for the evening in more ways than one; not only did they take home the award for Quality Service Business of the Year (Metropolitan), but they also won the fabulous Door Prize of a trip for two people flying Business Class to Las Vegas!

After the Awards were awarded, the speeches spoken and the songs sung, the band took over the stage and the crowd took over the dance floor. The Greg Schultz Band kept guests dancing till midnight.

All proceeds for the evening, including an incredible $5600 raised in additional Door Prize tickets sales will go to the Motor Industry Foundation to support Western Australians who need our help. The Foundation would like to thank Co Hosts Motor Trades Association of WA and the Chamber of Automotive Industry, Platinum Sponsors Capricorn Society, Gold Sponsors Car Craft, Castrol, Commonwealth Bank and St George, Silver Sponsors Capital Finance, Bronze Sponsors The West Australian and BDO Kendalls. Thanks also to supporters Gino's Panel and Paint, Swann Insurance, Motive Travel, Lamb Print and TVW Channel 7. Finally, the Motor Industry Foundation would like to thank all the guests who looked fabulous and came along to make it such an enjoyable night.

Meet The Coaches - February 2008

On Tuesday February 19 the Motor Industry Foundation hosted a fundraising evening to 'Meet The Coaches', which was a resounding success. Over 150 guests were captivated as Mark Harvey of the Fremantle Dockers and John Worsfold from the West Coast Eagles discussed the upcoming 2008 season.

Guests enjoyed drinks and cocktail food at the Perth Football Club and got to hear the inside story on what to expect from their team. MC for the night, David Christison, kept the conversation flowing between the two coaches before opening up for questions from the floor.

Mark and John relaxed and chatted for more than an hour on stage, and afterwards generously agreed to sign articles for many lucky guests. This included a limited edition WAFL 2007 Grand Final Ball signed by both coaches, which drew some very competitive bidding when auctioned on the night. Brian Hesse, the eventual successful bidder, was thrilled with his purchase.

All proceeds of the evening, including the auction went to the WA Motor Industry Foundation. The Foundation is driven by it's desire to make a difference to the lives of less fortunate Western Australians, and it is only through the industry's support of functions and activities like this that it can continue to happen. The Foundation would like to thank everyone who came along on the night and contributed to a great event and looks forward to your continued support of the many exciting events it has coming up.
